[Membership of National Health Insurance for Foreigners]


The National Health Insurance Plan is a public medical insurance scheme administered by municipalities. Foreign residents of Saitama City who meet all the following conditions must enroll in the National Health Insurance Plan:


1.

Registered as a foreign resident of Saitama City

2.

Length of stay is recognized as one (1) year or more

3.

Not enrolled in another health insurance program such as that of your place of employment

4. Not receiving welfare benefits

The determination of whether or not the individual meets the above conditions is carried out on a case-by-case basis. Inquire with the Health Insurance & Pension Section at your local ward office.

* Foreign residents forfeit their qualifications upon leaving Japan. If you are returning to your home country or have re-entered Japan with a valid re-entry permit, go to your local ward office and complete the necessary procedures.

* Those on short stays or who have overstayed their visa cannot enroll in the National Health Insurance Plan.
