Your Child's Health

Taking your Child to the Doctor

When your child is ill, take him/her to a pediatrician first. If the pediatrician is unable to treat that particular illness, he/ she will direct you to the relevant specialist.

Bring the following with you to the hospital/clinic:

·   Health Insurance Card
·   Childrearing Assistance Medical Fees Subsidy Eligibility Certificate
·   Maternal and Child Health Handbook
·   Hospital/Clinic ID Card (if you have already visited that hospital/clinic and received an ID card)

Health Checks for Newborns and Dental Exams for Toddlers

Children can receive free health checks and dental exams at set periods between the ages of 4 months old and 3 years old. Please have your child checked to ensure that he/she is growing up healthy.

The necessary paperwork (documents used for health checks and list of medical facilities where checks can be done) will be sent to your home when your child is at the appropriate age for the respective checkups. Please choose a medical facility from the list mailed to you and call them directly to arrange a date and time for the checkup.

Vaccinating Your Child

Vaccines are injections that help prevent children from becoming ill.
Babies should start receiving vaccines two months after birth. As your baby grows, they will have more opportunities to go outside. As a result, they are more likely to become sick. Please have your baby vaccinated early, while they are in good health.

※There are many kinds of vaccines.
The vaccines recommended for your child change in relation to your baby’s age.
※You can use “Saitama City Healthcare Navi” to search for doctors that can speak languages other than Japanese.
