School Admission Health Examination

A school admission notification will be sent by the end of January each year when your child is at the age of entering elementary school. Your child is required to attend a health examination for school admission. This health examination is conducted for children entering school, in accordance with the School Health and Safety Law.

Points to note about the health examination

1. Please have the child accompanied by a guardian who knows the child well and knows about the child’s usual health condition. Please check the body temperature of both the child and guardian’s body temperature in the morning on the health examination day. Do not come to the health examination if either one has a fever or coughs, or feeling unwell. You will be checked during registration.

2. Please strictly observe reception hours and avoid coming to school more than 30 minutes before your reception begins. Each child is to be accompanied by only one guardian in order to avoid the 3Cs. Also, kindly refrain from going to the school by car. *In the case of bad weather, such as typhoons, please visit the city website for updates and any consequential changes.

3. During the health examination, parents/guardians will be asked to either wait in a waiting room or accompany the child. (Please follow the instructions given by the school.)

4. Health examinations finish at different times depending on the school, so please contact the respective schools directly for the exact time. Please refer to the upper section of the previous page for information on lunch.

5. Dress the child in clothing that she/he can take off and put on by himself/herself (no clothing with the top and bottom portions connected such as dresses), and please be sure to write the child’s name on his/her clothing.

6. If the child has long hair, please put the hair up so that his/her ears are clearly visible to facilitate the hearing tests.

7. A dental check will also be conducted so please have the child brush his/her teeth beforehand.

Q&A on School Admission Health Examination

Q1. When should I refrain from going to the health examination as a coronavirus infection control measure?
A1. For children who are entering elementary school and their guardians, please refrain from the health examination if:
 (1) you have a fever in the morning on the day of the examination after checking your body temperature,
 (2) you are infected and have not recovered,
 (3) you have been in contact (physically) with a person infected by coronavirus and that you have been requested to self-isolate,
 (4) you have a flu condition such as fever, cough, or strong fatigue by the health examination day, and are suspicious of coronavirus infection.

Q2. Are the schools designated for the health checks in the Notification of School Admission Health Examination the same schools children will be attending April?
A2. Health check venues have been designated based on the different school commuting zones. Therefore, as a rule, the schools designated for the health check are the same school children will attend in April.

A3. Please contact the Board of Education of the municipality where you plan to move and get the health exam done at the school designated by them.

Once you have completed the necessary moving procedures, please present proof of moving to the school where the health check was done, obtain the relevant health check documents and submit them to the Board of Education (or school) of your new municipality.

Q5. We plan to move within Saitama City (different school commuting zone)and, if possible, we would like to do the health check at the school our child will attend after we move. Is this okay or do we have to do the health check at the school already designated?

A5. If you plan to move after the day of the health check, please get the health check done at the school already assigned to you.

Q6. We have another appointment on the day of the health examination. What should we do?

A6. Please make every effort to do the health check at the designated school as scheduled.

If your child’s entry to private (national) school is confirmed before the health examination day, please check with that school directly as to whether you need to take the school entrance health checks offered by the Saitama City Board of Education. If you decide not to do the health check, please inform the designated school by the health check date.
