Municipal Elementary and Junior High School Enrolments
Elementary School
Children can enter elementary school in the April following their 6th birthday. Foreign nationals are not obliged to attend Japanese schools but can attend Saitama municipal elementary schools if they wish. Schools in Saitama City have three terms:
Term 1: April to July
Term 2: August to December
Term 3: January to March
You can enter at any time during a term.
Schedule for entering Saitama Municipal Elementary Schools:

You receive a notice informing your child’s elementary school |

January to February |
There will be an explanatory meeting (meeting that provides information on necessary school preparation) at the elementary school that your child will be attending |

April |
Entrance Ceremony, parents and their children, teachers and fellow students attend this celebratory ceremony |
Junior High School
In January of 6th grade in elementary school:
You will receive a notice informing your junior high school
Notes:
The school admittance and health check notification will be sent to your registered address.
Please contact the School Affairs Division in the following cases:
· You have not received the notification of school admittance
· Your child is enrolling in an international school
· Your child is enrolling in a school other than a Saitama municipal elementary or junior high school
· You are unable to do resident registration because you do not have a resident card or special permanent resident certificate.
