Fire and Medical Emergencies

Please dial 119 in the event of a fire or medical emergency. Fire trucks and ambulances will be dispatched free of charge.

Examples of fire emergencies include:

・Possessions or property catching fire
・Forest fire, grass fire, etc.
・Vehicle fire, etc.

 Examples of medical emergency include:

・Suddenly falling ill and being unable to move
・Losing consciousness
・Getting trapped in a vehicle during a traffic accident

Calling 119                                                      

・ Get to a safe place before calling 119.
・ Speak slowly and clearly.
・ If possible, have a Japanese speaker make the call.
※Over-the-phone translation services are available in English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Once you connect, the call will proceed along the following lines:

 

Fire

・What is the address? (If unsure, please describe your location using landmarks such as stores, bus stops, etc. )
・Can you see smoke or flames?
・What is burning? (A house, trash, etc.)
・Is anyone injured?
・Are there any people trapped by the fire?
・What is the name and phone number of the person calling?

)

 

Medical Emergency

・What is the address? (If unsure, please describe your location using landmarks such as stores, bus stops, etc. )
・Who has fallen ill? (or, Who has been injured?) )
・How old is the patient?
・Is the patient male or female?
・Is the patient conscious? (Can they respond when called? Are their eyes open?)
・Is the patient breathing?
・Does the patient have any chronic illness?
・Do you have a preferred hospital?
・What is the name and phone number of the person calling?
 ※  While ambulance transport services are free of charge, medical fees incurred during hospitalization will apply.
