Bicycles

Illegal Parking of Bicycles

Bicycles left in public areas such as in front of the station or on the street will get in the way of emergency vehicles such as fire trucks or ambulances, and pedestrians. The areas around stations are designated as strictly no parking zones for bicycles. In accordance with regulations, any bicycles left unattended in public areas will be removed and taken to the bicycle impound.

Retrieving Impounded Bicycles

It is possible to retrieve bicycles that have been left in no-parking zones and have been subsequently taken to one of the city’s bicycle impounds.

  • Retrieval period:
    Within 30 days of notification of impound
  • Please bring the following to retrieve your bicycle:
    1. proof of address and name (e.g. driver’s license, ID card)
    2. bicycle key
    3. 1000 yen retrieval fee (2000 yen for motorized bicycles)

Bicycle Safety Reminders

1. Obey “STOP” traffic signs at intersections and check for safety.
2. Ride in one line on the left side of the road in the same direction of cars.
3. Riding a bicycle is prohibited after consuming alcohol.
4. Double riding is prohibited.
5. It is dangerous and prohibited to ride a bicycled single handed while using or talking on a mobile phone, or holding an umbrella.
6. Use lights at night.
7. Slow down and give way to pedestrians.
