Description:

With curving trunks over two meters in length, these wisterias are regarded as three of the prefecture’s most outstanding trees.
Supported by trellises, the branches trail nearly twelve meters from east to west and between eleven and thirteen meters from north to south.
With bright purple flower spikes that grow over one meter long, full bloom is a breathtaking sight to behold.

The story of these trees began in the early Showa period (1926-1989).
They were gathered from the neighborhoods of Miyaharacho, Sashiogi, and Ageo City’s Kawarabuki and relocated to 1-Chome Higashionaricho.
In 1953, the trees were designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument under the title “Omiya Fuji-en no Fuji”, or, “The Wisteria of Omiya Fuji-en".

This title changed to “Aoba-en no Fuji” when the wisterias were moved to their current location in 1965.
