Description: |
The religious worship of Mt. Fuji in the Edo period (1603-1867) led to the creation of many Mt. Fuji imitating mounds (fujizuka). This mound is approximately 25 meters in diameter and 3.5 meters high, in the shape of a mortar turned upside down, with a Fuji Sengen shrine at the top. Inside the mound, there is a stone chamber in the shape of a womb with a relief depicting the guardian deity of the tenth lunar month, which is related to pregnancy. Based on the inscription on the stone chamber, the mound is thought to have been constructed in the early Edo period. The related materials, including a mirror, a seal, an old banner, a votive lantern, a statue of a deity, stone artifacts, and documents of the Ikegami family, are also designated as part of the collection. |
