Description: |
At the time of designation, this holly osmanthus (Osmanthus heterophyllus) measured 10 meters tall, with eastern, central, and western trunks measuring 1 meter, 1 meter, and 1.14 meters in circumference. The base circumference was 4 meters around. The easternmost and central trunks were spaced 1.3 meters apart at ground level while the westernmost trunk measured 0.9 meters apart from the central trunk. The three trunks rise in separate directions. Soaring above the north side of an Inari-jinja Shrine and stretching southward westward towards Aoba-en Cemetery, this tree cuts a figure that can be seen from far away. The leaves are stiff and lack the fine, thorn-like edge serration often associated with the species. Its tiny, white flowers bloom around November. Their lingering, gentle fragrance rivals that of Osmanthus fragrans. |
