Description:

This giant keyaki (Japanese zelkova) has long been revered as the sacred tree of Shinmeigu Shrine. At the time of its designation, it stood 32 meters tall with a trunk 8.5 meters around and a base circumference of a whopping 14.3 meters. The tree’s thickly gnarled bark belies the long months and years that have passed it by.

This majestic tree bears small, yellow-green, dioecious flowers from April to early May.
