Description:

This tree is 15 meters tall, with a trunk girth of 4.53 meters and root girth of 7.4 meters (at the time of designation).

To the left of the main hall of Hokoji Temple, to the north of the bell tower, is a Castanopsis tree that retains the dome-like form characteristic　of lauroid trees. The trunk is undulating as if several trees are leaning against each other, and the well-developed ground roots give the tree an imposing appearance. This old tree is in good condition and is also well-proportioned.
