Description: |
This statue of the bodhisattva Miroku originates from the Muromachi period. It was crafted using the yosegi-zukuri (joined-block construction) method, and features crystal inlay eyes, colored skin, and vermillion robes. The vermillion was applied over a base of lacquer overlayed with gold leaf. The byakugo on the bodhisattva’s forehead is made of crystal. The figure stands 43 cm tall, with a hassaiko (measurement from hairline to pedestal) of 30 cm. This statue is part of a set that depicts a trio of Buddhist deities (sanzonbutsu). The bodhisattvas Kokuzo and Miroku serve as attendants to the primary image of the bodhisattva Jizo. |
