Description:

At the time of this tree’s designation, it measured 20 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 2.9 meters and a base circumference of 4.53 meters.

This bamboo-leaf oak (Quercus myrsinifolia) grows behind the main hall. It displays dense green leaves all year round. In spring, it produces fine yellow male flowers and light brown female flowers, and in late fall, it drops many ripe, yellowish-brown acorns. Because they are the most cold-tolerant of all oaks, bamboo-leaf oaks were often planted as windbreaks and firebreaks in the region around Saitama City.
