Description:

In the past, this dance was called "Bessho no Settai Mochi" and was performed by request for celebrations such the completion of a new building or a shichi-go-san coming-of-age ceremony. The dance consists of "Shinsho-Pounding," in which rice cakes are actually pounded, "Kyokuzuki-pounding," in which an empty mortar is pounded with a small pestle in an acrobatic style, and a "Mansaku Dance," performed in between these two dances. During the “Kyokuzuki-pounding” spectators are awed by the synchronized acrobatics of four performers. Currently, the dance is performed on New Year's Eve at the Gomikaido Community Center in Sashiogi, the "Sashiogi Festival" held in August, and other local events.
